This collection contains quarterly returns of prisoners held in prisons, asylums and convict hulks across England and Wales, between the years 1824 and 1876. These returns were registered at regular intervals to record the individuals confined in each institution. Records typically include the name of the prisoner, the year of birth, the name and place of the prison, the place and date of conviction, and the date on which the return was registered. Some records also include the date of death.
