Jane AddamsDied: May 21 1935 - Chicago, Cook, Illinois, United States
Jane Addams was an American settlement activist, social reformer, and pacifist who co-founded Hull House in Chicago, one of the most influential community centers in U.S. history, providing education, shelter, and support to thousands of immigrants and working-class families. A leading voice of the Progressive Era, she fought tirelessly for labor rights, women's suffrage, and child welfare, and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1931, becoming the first American woman to receive the honor. She is widely regarded as the founder of the social work profession in North America.
